Why High End, Photo Realistic Renderings can be counter-productive for Architectural Design Presentations?

Feb 05, 2021

Hi, I'm Jason Josselsohn – the Concept Design Architect. For the last 17 years, I have worked as a Design Architect, producing concept proposals for many prestigious firms. I found myself pioneering my ability to streamline concept design and presentation whilst designing many large-scale mixed-use projects.

During my early career, I was often faced with high-pressure design presentation deadlines, an occupational hazard in this kind of work. Working under such stress is not only unpleasant, but it takes its toll on the quality of your work and lifestyle. To meet this significant challenge in my career, I learned to streamline my design & presentation workflow to cope with my design burdens.

HIGH-END RENDERING vs EASY RENDER TECHNIQUES

I learned that an Architect or Student needs to consider that he constantly needs to tweak 3d models during the design & planning phase. In these initial phases, the fees need to be injected to bring to life to a project, and it is essential to communicate these incremental 3d design steps with the client.

Mot architects are proficient designers yet subcontract to 3d Visualization experts to get the perspective imagery completed. High-end 3d visualization is an advanced and intense process demanding on human resources and financial outlay.

EASIER 3D PRESENTATION METHODS

It is these top-heavy processes that need to become streamlined. The modern-day  Design Architect should have the two-fold ability to design and create a compelling 3D presentation independently without relying on visualization experts.

I believe the designer needs to maintain authority over his own design process & presentation process until a high-end rendering is needed for sales purposes. A designer may argue that in preparation for meetings it is sufficient to export imagery from native design software, like Archicad, Revit & Sketchup. I have found that average 3d imagery is counterproductive when selling ideas and could jeopardize future decision making if not done with finesse, a 3d model with a few innovative steps can be infused with life in final imagery with a bit of know-how.

THE BUSINESS OF WINNING MORE PROJECTS

The Art of creating 3d design and powerful presentions within a structured streamlined workflow can save any architecture firm thousands of dollars in labour costs, reduce stress for the individual designer and secure fees much faster. Compelling perspective imagery is in an arms reach of every single design architect, without having to rely on complex technology.

THE NEED FOR AN IN BETWEEN PHASE OF PRESENTATION TECHNIQUE

The Artful 3d Presentation Workflow is a process somewhere between the realms of high-end rendering and sketching, this is a method that I wish to share in our Free Empowerment Training Week Workshop, coming up on this month. We will be exploring innovative ways to streamline and breathe life into your visual presentation and production process, which can add to your daily design habits, giving you a set of cutting-edge tools.

I look forward to sharing these ideas with you during our time together, all you need to do is sign up on the top right of this page, and I will send you the times and links for all our training in the next few weeks.
